Barclaycard - Start date for 9 months free purchases

I'm just about to apply for a Barclaycard to take advantage of the 10 months free on purchases, I'm going to be paying for my car insurance as I can't afford it in one go and this seems to me by far the cheapest method of credit as it's 0% for 10 months vs 22% apr through the insurance company is a big difference!

The only thing I was wondering is that I don't need to renew until the early September but want to apply now as I know that sometimes credit card applications can take a long time. Now the website says 10 months from account opening, so is this from when they receive the intital application or when they get the terms and conditions through back from me? I was thinking that it might be best to apply now, get a conditional accept and then just hang on to the agreement until a bit closer to the time and then send it back, therefore making full use of the 10 months.

Any help would be appriciated.

I believe you 'electronically' sign the Barclaycard credit agreement online at the end of your application, so that's when the 0% starts from.

There are some longer introductory periods available though. See...

Does that mean that you are automatically accepted? Would they not want to see ID etc from me before they fully accept my application?

If that is the case I may still go for that one as I'm not keen on the 'non bank' cards that rate to risk etc.... I'm pretty sure my credit rating is very good but still.

I don't really need the full 10 months as I'll pay it off in about 6 but just thought I'd get the full 10 if it's easy to.

Possibly, but if they're able to electronically identify you from the CRA search (including Electoral Roll info) then further ID is not generally required.

Oh OK, well I'm the electoral role and have 3 or 4 utilities in my name so I may just hold off for a while and hope that they are fairly quick in processing it.

    Thanks for your help.
