Bringing down my gas and leccy bill challenge (start August 2008)

  • Yeah - it would be a bit annoying if all the money saved from using the tumble dryer balls went to pay the vet to remove one from the dog's stomach!

By the way, I did get my gas statement in and they do owe me £60. I think I'll leave it there to go towards the winter costs though.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Good thread and I have learned loads :) We have reduced our energy consumption by a huge amount (almost 50%) It’s amazing how many electrical appliances draw current even when they are switched off. PC’s and monitors draw quite a bit as does the TV. We have our Sky box, DVD, video and amplifier under the stairs and it was always very warm in there. Not any more as everything is switched off at the wall socket when not in use. We haven’t used the tumble drier in months and are airing clothes out in the house. I am particular keen on a wall mounted, folding frame washing line I have just bought as I have fitted a cover to it. Whilst not cheap at around £100 it means we can hang the washing out on rainy days like today. It took twice as long to dry but it’s better than using the tumble drier. It will be interesting to see if we can get through winter without using the drier. If we can get the bulk of the moisture out of the washing, then it will be easy to air stuff out in the house.

Mine were poundshop bargain ones too! Used them this am, and they have cut the drying time and clothes do feel softer. The Airedale terrier in the house thinks they look like an interesting toy, so will have to make sure that the tumble dryer door isn't left open at all, or it could be hunt the dryer ball!

I've never heard of dryer balls (no pun intended) but afyer reading your post i've googled them and everyone says at least 25% less drying time. just orders some from amazon. Thanks for the tip !:T

Not sure if it's just me being a bit thick, but although I've joined the Money saving carbon club, I can't find a link to it:confused:

Can anyone tell me how to get into it please?

If you click on carbon clubs (top right of your imeasure page) you should see it under 'Clubs You Have Joined'.

Thanks, but I've done that and although it tells me that I'm a member of the club, there's no link for me to get to it

    This is what it says

Name Description Members Leave club MoneySaving Carbon Club A club for those members of MoneySavingExpert.com who wish to reduce both their carbon footprint and the costs thereof.

Lily Lu - Unless I'm missing something, there's not much more! If you click on the number, you get a lists of members. On your results page, it tells you your placing in the group, although on another thread, there's some debate about whether it means much!

    Hi Magentasue

So, it just tells me that I'm a member of a club called money saving carbon club, but apart from being able to see who is also a member, It's not something that I can actually access and take part in? I don't understand the point of that:confused:

    Thanks anyway
