Quick advice - Car insurance during 4 weeks holiday

Hi my car insurance ends on 31st August. However, I'm going on holiday for 4 weeks from 17 August till 15 September. The car will be parked up on driveway and its worth no more than £500. Can I let me insurance lapse and take out a new policy on my return? Will that affect my no claims bonus of 16 years if there is a lapse in policy? Thanks in advance.

You can do this, and it won't affect your ncb.
Obviously if it has gone or been torched when you return you will not be covered! Unless they do it before the end of the month!0 -
Check your renewal documents to make sure it isn't signed-up for "auto renew" - many [most?] paid by DD or Credit or Debit Card these days are renewed automatically if you don't contact the insurer and tell them to cancel it from the renewal date. So if it's one of those it won't lapse on it's own.
You could arrange your new insurance before you go to commence on 15/9 rather than have to faff around when you get back off your hols.0 -
I checked earlier today with current insurer and its not on direct payment. A good idea to arrange insurance to start on my return. I shall try and sort that out before I go.
