I bought the above DVD recorder following recommendations on the Shop But Dont Drop forum. I am trying to install the firmware from the Lite-on website but I'm stuck - I've never used winrar or winzip before - so wonder if anyone can help?
I've entered the s/n when asked, then downloaded winRAR and winZip on the next page, but now I cant work out what to do next.
Any chance of a step-by-step guide from this point? Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Tim

Winrar and Winzip are programs which can compress/decompress files and folders. You will need to install the programs by double clicking on them and then following the instructions which follow.
When the software has loaded onto your computer (you only need to use one not both) the file you have downloaded from the lite-on site will show itself as either a winrar or winzip icon.
Double click on the file you downloaded from lite-on and this should start the relevant software (winrar or winzip)...a window should open showing the folder/file you want to decompress (unzip) and above the window will be a row of buttons giving you different options. You need to chose the unzip/extract option. Usually the path for unzipping will be displayed when you click on that button. Decide if you want the default location or imput one of you own. then click ok.
The files/folders will be unzipped/extracted to the location your identifed, all you need to do then is follow the instructions (which should be included in the folder you downloaded from lite-on) on how to update the firmware of the dvd recorder.
One point to remember, updating firmware although being very easy to do can sometimes actually fail remdering the item useless. This day and age the chance of a failed firmware flash are very small, but its worth knowing that things can go wrong.Welcome, rogerramjet.
