In my opinion you may as well apply for everything going, then decide what you do want to take.
I had a problem with my finance last year and ended up not getting money until a few weeks after the rest of the class, it was really stressful and reduced me to tears, mixed with the culture shock of starting my social work degree and juggling work/ children etc. It really is the last thing you want to be worrying about.

Thanks for all you replies. I will apply for the loans and I will also contact my university to see what's available to me.

I will be claiming some benefits but unsure how much HB I will get because there's funny rules around students. I can onlt claim IS in the holidays. So it's really just child tax credit, free school meals and council tax.

    Thank you

If you're a lone parent then I don't know of any "funny" rules that apply for HB. You may not get all your rent paid simply because your income may take you over the level where this is applicable. As far as council tax goes, unless you have a child over the age of 18 living at home and out of education then there's no CT payable as students are exempt.
