Moving into a new house

I am moving into a new house and the previus owner used British Gas and Scottish Power for their energy bills. Do I have to use these energy providers first before changing nor can I change sraight away?
However you will be able then to switch immediately, but bear in mind that this will take approx 6 weeks to take effect so you will be using BG and SP power for that time and will get a bill from them for it.0 -
Thanks,
So basically I have to register with them first and then I can Change?0 -

register with the current gas supplier to the address the day you move in with opening readings then register with a new supplier once you have done a comparison on one the sites listed here straight away, it will take a up to 28 working days aka approx 6 weeks to transfer so you will get a bill from the current supplier for what you use up to the date your supply is moved.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
