Hoping someone can help. I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5920 Gemstone from LaptopsDirect, I used Microsoft Vista Easy Transfer to transfer my documents folder from my ex's computer (we used it jointly) over to my new laptop and it was working great. Then an error message came up saying that the hard drive was full and it could not continue.
I know I have alot of music and pictures on the old computer - about 35GB worth of stuff. But the Acer has 120GB harddrive so I thought it would be ok. When I look at the c drive on the acer it says it only has 50Gb and it is full already - only 2gb remaining. Where is the other 70gb harddrive memory??
I've logged a call with Laptopsdirect but they are being very slow getting back to me and I only have another 24 hours to transfer the stuff over before my ex takes his computer back. Help!

Do you have a 'D' drive too (hard drive, not DVD drive)? The 120gb hard drive is probably split in 2, with 50gb as C and 70g as 'D'. Just shift some stuff over.
However, if you don't see a 2nd hard drive letter listed, then you may need to create a partition, which is easy enough to do but if its a new and not refurb laptop, then it should already have been done!0 -
The drive will have been partitioned. When you look at explorer, do you have a drive C and a drive D?.....0

Besides, if he broke up with you, just delete his stuff0 -

There is indeed a D Drive. I've never heard of partitioning before. :rolleyes:I assume I can move anything over to the D-drive?
My D-drive shows 50gb and my C-drive shows 50gb - my maths may not be great but don't see how that adds up to 120gb - I can ask the techie support that though. Main thing was just to get everything transferred over.
I did think of deleting everything after I'd transferred it - it is all my music anyway which I spent hours ripping from my own cds. I even created playlists for him! But he owes me money so I need to keep things neutral for now. Maybe a virus that can be activated remotely at a later date....:D0 -
There is probably a "hidden" partition used for recovery, it should be ok!.Laters

Yeah, move your music and videos over to D.
With the acer there could be a small partition that contains your restoration backups incase anything goes wrong, which could be hidden and only viewable during a system restore. This would probably take up a few gig.
Also, although the laptop says 120gb HD, you won't get that in reality, more like 115 in total as 5 gbish is wasted due to the way file structures and formating works (or FAT to us techies).
You can double check where all the space is by looking on partition information on Vista. Unfortunately I only have XP here so I can't walk you through the steps so you can see exactly whats what, but some kind soul with Vista in front of them could0
