Which Credit Card?

Hi,

I have a barclaycard which i have had for the last 8 years and signed up for it in university so i think its still a student account.

I always pay my balance of in full. I dont get any benefits from this card and i do alot of online shopping and fuel purchasing (around £80/week on fuel).

I went into the abbey store last week and they looked at my current account and offered me the abbey zero card and we got talking about the extra benefits that card can give over my barclaycard one, but i left it.

Anyhow, i'd like to purchase a laptop for £1800 and would like to save some money on it if i can and any money on shopping\fuel.

A cashback credit card will be great. Is the The Amex Platinum MoneyBack Credit Card the best option for me? Is it widely accepted?

I would then also like to cancel my barclaycard too as i prefer not have more then one credit card so a all in one be great. Barclaycard also kept upping my credit limit but i reduced it back to £2000 as thats all i really need.

Please Advise.

    Nobody there

Couple of more questions, when do i receive the cashback with the Amex Platinum and barclaycard?

Also, whats happens after the first 3 months is over, do i have to spend a certain amount to get the 1%/1.5%.

If you spend a lot on fuel, there is a Citibank Shell Mastercard that gives you 3% cashback on fuel purchases (from Shell garages obviously) and 1% on other purchases.

    Hope this helps

Try to get the Amex first as 5% for 3 months is worth a lot if you spend a lot esp if you are going to buy a high purchase item like a laptop. Then after a year ditch it.

Then go for Citi Shell Mastercard as its not tiered or limited like the Amex. 1% is available on all spend. 3% on fuel from Shell.

You think its a bit of a hassle but thats the only way you can benefit best.

Third alternative is the egg money card (1% if its still available) and forth option is Barclaycard cashback 4% but is only 0.5% after 30 Sep 08.

    Good luck.

Be aware that not everywhere accepts Amex. Might be an idea to check with the retailer before getting the Credit Card.

To give you an idea on Amex usability, we find it accepted 90% of the time.

    I recommend Amex because:

One of the best cashback's you can get.
Great customer service - I always get a UK call centre.
    OK limits.
Great on-line facilities, web features, email alerts.

I like Citi too but their Indian call centre drives me crazzy!
