is it possible to play mp4 on standard dvd player if not what player would i need or how could i turn mp4 into standard dvd format

Mp4 is divx codec I think if so winavi can convert to dvd but there are plenty of cheap players around now that can play divx for around the £40 mark I got one a good while ago from maplins £70 make is a Yamada.
Last time i was in Aldi I noticed there player played divx. £39.99 I think.
ps:Not keen on the converted files myself dont seem to be the most compatible.0
