Popping Noise From Pipe Once Water Runs Down the Sinks Plug Hole

Can anyone in the know tell me what they think is going on with the pipe under the bathroom sink? When draining the sink and letting the water run through the pipe from the plug hole it makes this loud popping noise during and after the water has gone down and continues for some time until the water has presumably finally run away. This is the only place in the house where this noise occurs and only down this one pipe. It is an open hole where the plug goes due to the 'pop up' plug not working and I think someone has dropped something down there - such as a toothpaste cap (having retrieved one from it in the past) and I am wonder if some blockage would make this noise with the water unable to pass through easily.

The worst thing is that I have a really soaking carpet surrounding the sink and water has saturated the floorboards beneath just in front of the sink and this seems to be getting worse every day no matter how I try to dry the carpet on top. I am wondering if after the water has run away from the sink that there is a way that this water could be spurting out of a pipe up onto the wooden floor above. If there were a lose valve or bracket or break in the pipework below which was letting out water would this make this popping sound and could water spurt upwards? I do hope a kindly plumber or someone in the know could give me some advice. I don't want to call in a plumber if this doesn't sound feasible.

What type of trap do you have under the sink?

Is it an S bend or a bottle trap, one with a little pot at the bottom.

SOmetimes on the bottle traps there is a little air valve at the top of where the waste water exists the trap and this is to equalise air pressure in the pipe, if this has malfunctioned water may be coming out of here.

Is there any water in your cupboard under the sink or is it below the units?

Don't know if it is the same as ours but we had a blockage in the pipe.

When the kitchen was build it was built badly as it was a builders own home.

The pipe ran straight down into the drain which had got blocked.

The water backed up and would sit in the pipe. Problem was not all the gromits were in place as it was off cuts he got from old jobs so didn't put all the rubber blocks in the right place.

It was fine when the water was running down although making popping as bits of the block were removing and then clogging again. The pop was the waste shifting.

However when the water backed up it would flow out of the pipe as the gromits to stop it esaping were not put in to stop the water coming backwards only draining away if that makes sense.

The water would then seep out under the units and the flooring and through the floornig. Giving the appearance the leak was elsewhere.

We have now had the pipes put in properly and the old drainage removed and it is all good.

Not sure if this is your problem but it sounds similar.

    Hope that makes sense.
