since you mention a deposit as well as rent in advance, I guess you are not talking about an RLA agreement, with 2 month's rent taken in advance, instead of a deposit

Paying rent in advance is normal. If you paid a deposit and one month's rent in advance before you moved in, then there is nothing to repay.

Your final payment on 26th July covers your rent from 26th July to 25th August.

You paid a deposit of £400. You will get this back (less any damages)

If you rented the flat for 12 months, paying the first month's rent up front and starting on 24 August then this is what happens:
    24/08 - 1st month's rent
    24/09 - 2nd month's rent
    24/10 - 3rd month's rent
    24/11 - 4th month's rent
    24/12 - 5th month's rent
    24/01 - 6th month's rent
    24/02 - 7th month's rent
    24/03 - 8th month's rent
    24/04 - 9th month's rent
    24/05 - 10th month's rent
    24/06 - 11th month's rent
    24/07 - 12th month's rent
24/08 - nothing to pay, you moved out yesterday

    I hope that helps.

P.S. If you moved in on the 24th, you will move out on the 23rd.
