A friend has tried to turn on the pc and heard a lot of clicking, it then came up with something about not being able to find the prime slave:confused:

Can anyone help please or is this terminal?

A Primary Slave and Master. There is also a Secondary Master and Slave

Clicking is not good, hard drive failing/poorly connected is a possibility, if the Bios cannot see the disk then you are in trouble.
Not terminal yet, needs a low level check over and (software) repair.

The hardware is looking for a Boot Partition which may be located on either the Primary or Secondary Master/Slave hard drives, simply put it cannot find it.

    Thanks for that TS

It looks like another trip to the repair shop then (it only had one last month thanks to a nasty)

Mind you, it is very old, so maybe time they replaced it.

    Thanks again

If it had a service last month a cable could be loose, the clicking might be the fan/other wires touching the cpu cooler fan blades, take the side panel off and do a quick visual over the innards.

My hard drive has been clicking for months. I know that this is not a good sign so I am desperately saving up for a new computer. I need a new one anyway but I don't want to have to go without a computer for any length of time if I can help it. :)
At the moment I just have a laptop but find desktops much more sturdier.
