I just wrote a very long post about how useless Abbey are but the forum disappeared it. I was angry enough to begin with - now I am incandescent!!!!!

The answer to the question in your post title is an emphatic "yes".0

As an Abbey employee, I'd be interested to know what was said. Maybe I can help?

Yep - they are crap!
Thankfully I've nearly cleared my overdraft and then I'm off!Oct Comp Wins:Slimming World Mag (£2.65) it was a consolation prize but whateva! VIP tix to Armand Van Helden CD Launch at O2,0 -
I've been with Abbey since I was 7, and I would have to say no. I have other banks, so don't think I'm that loyal - I do put it about a bit in the banking world
.
Although saying that, today I went to open 2 childrens savings bonds for my 2 youngest ones and the computer crashed, so only one got opened, the other one will (hopefully) be opened tomorrow.

best bank for me. although i only have a current account with them and never go over my agreed, bar 1 time. been with them 7 years.
my only gripe is they 'replacement' cards system being SLOW! hsbc send u a new card within a day for lost or stolen cards. abbey seem to take up to a month. and sumtimes they dont send u ur new one in time for when the old one expires.
and they dont send me junk mail! and great online system!0 -
Had trouble trying to arrange a overdraft on a newly opened account despite having a mortgage, home insurance, life insurance and at the time unemployment insurance all with Abbey. We are (My partner and I) also paying in almost £3000 each month into our joint account and we fobbed of time and time again.
First we were told 1 month until we could apply for an overdraft, then 2 months, then 3 more months, then 6 more months! I complained and had a couple of letters saying the were investigating but haven't heard from them in since.
We do now however now have a £200 overdraft, we only wanted it in the unlikely event a direct-debit caught us by surprise!
Oh and we do get a mass of junk mail from them!0 -
My card was cloned about two weeks ago and £580 and £629 went form my account within twodays. Luckily I picked up on it and rang to cancel card ... to find Saturday night that fraud are closed but I could speak to someone in Asia who didn't cancel my card as I requested, just reissued a new one which 9 days later I am still waiting for!!
As the most I ever spend is about £120 (and rarely) I was a bit annoyed that nothing had flagged up, any large amounts on the LLoyds we always get a call to check. I spoke to Nikki (who seemed to have had a bad weekend) on Monday a.m. in fraud who was very abrupt and annoyed I wasn't grasping the information she was barking at me. I received a bill from Dell for £629 on Wednesday so rang back fraud thinking they might like the info but after 10 minutes with the phone ringing no ne picked up and abbey cut me off!!:mad:0 -
I do partly agree with chuckley, I never had any problems with managing my account online, and that's probably what keeps me with Abbey.
But anything else is a shamble, especially when you have a problem and you need to deal with their indian call centre, I've never had the phone put down on me so many times than with Abbey call centre, and you can't trust what they say as they lie to you. Some of the staff seem to take upon themselves to talk to their customers as if they were a piece of s**t, and you can't do nothing about it, how unprofessional is that.
And the lengh of time it takes for them to send replacement cards, sometimes your current card expires before you receive the replacement, which is not good when you need to use your card regularly.
I got a credit card which I never used because I could never log in my online account, I should call them and ask them to send me other log in codes and password, but I can't be bothered because of the above mentioned problems.
What would be the point.
They never seems to be capable to do simple tasks without problems, whether it's due to the crapp system they are forced to use or something else I don't know but I know that if I had to get a mortgage or some insurance or anything else that what I have so far with them I would avoid Abbey like the plague. Which is a shame because they were an excellent bank with an excellent customer service before they were taken over.
Santander bank is so big that I suppose they don't care about a few disgruntled british customers.0 -
My latest gripe is that I decided to move to A&L (for £100) and close one of my Abbey current accounts. Abbey have told A&L that I have no DDs or SOs to transfer - thus meaning that I won't qualify for the £100 from A&L. This despite have two regular payments to Abbey savings accounts in operation for more than a year and an SO set up in July - which should have started yesterday but which now appears to have a starting date in September instead.0

Completely agree...... remember that banks generally only have to deal with transactions in and out of an account - pretty simple stuff really, so they should get this stuff right pretty much all of the time.
HamiltonL - as an Abbey employee do you feel confident enough to have all of your bank accounts with them??
In all seriousness - if you are able to help with a fraud issue I am having then PM me and let me know, as everything else we have tried has failed in kick-starting the process!0
