TV aerial lead help

  • So: bought the thing, spent 30 mins fitting it (the only tool I had to hand was nail scissors). Then I fetched the telly & discovered I'd bought a socket rather than a plug and it doesn't fit together. SWEAR WORDS! Of course, shops were shut by then...

Last minute dash to a late night ASDA got me an extension cable which seemed right. Plugged everything together, scanned the telly and ...

    ...

    no. Doesnt work.

Have now stood outside in the pouring rain to discover the cable leads not to a rooftop aerial but probably goes into my attic. The aerial is on the other side of my house (where the telly is now, where I don't want it to be).

Will have a look in the attic tomorrow in the hope that something's come loose. But if it isnt obvious I'll have to get a professional in.

Anyone know what it'll cost? Tips on avoiding being ripped off?

Thanks anyway for your help. I've spent a fiver and an hour, and it was worth trying to do it myself.

if it goes into the attic you can pick an indoor ariel up from B&Q for under £20. cabling it won't be too difficult i presume as it's a standard cable from one end to the other so not much there.

Amarillo. Putting your own aerial on is really simple. If you buy it at a local electricians and bring a bit of wire with you they will show you how to connect it. (in any case there's probably a diagram on or in the packaging)
It's as easy as putting the connector on the end of the wire, that you have done already.
The main thing is to see where everyone else's aerial is pointing (including yours on the othere side of the house) and point yours in the same direction
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!
