I'm sure I remember being told that you can actually put things into your pockets/handbag and walk around the store, but the only way you can be accused of shoplifting is if you walk past the checkouts or leave the store, even if it's completely obvious they're going to steal things. And BexTech, it actually isn't your job as a shop assistant to go around tackling shoplifters, the person informed their manager, what else would you expect them to do? Every place I've worked has told me that in NO circumstances should you ever approach someone you suspect to be stealing, and go straight to security, or your manager because they're better trained to deal with that kind of situation. It's not just people being lazy or trying to pass off responsibility to someone elseD'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0

Got some great bargains in the Oswestry branch yesterday.
Pink ipod/MP3 accessory kits for £2.99 http://www.pinktoolbox.co.uk/int/product.php?cPath=19&products_id=28
Some Jamie Oliver spice kits for 29p each. RRP £1.99. At least 4 different flavours. Not tried them yet, but for that price I thought it was worth buying a selection.
They had lots of the 49p rice spoons, so I picked up one of those.
Mini tubes of paprika Pringles-19p
Oust descaler for kettles etc-99p. RRP-£1.99
Really nice branch. The staff seemed nice and the shop was big. I wish they'd open one nearer London. I might not go so crazy if I had one down the road. Still, more christmas pressies sorted, so I'm happy!Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Sadly the mentality of the British, ain't my job syndrome.
Well TBH, from working in retail, I've been spat at, sworn at, intimidated and had a chair thrown at me - for following shoplifters, catching shoplifters/fraudsters and following banking rules (like, yunno, not giving them non-existent money). For this, and working overtime each and every day, working every Christmas, getting 'lunch' at 3.30 etc etc etc I got the princely sum of about £5.40 an hour (whatever min wage was back then). If retail COULD pay their staff less, they would. They simply don't pay enough or treat their staff well enough to expect them to go chasing shoplifters.
I had the mentality for quite some time of doing stuff that 'wasn't my job', then I got made redundant, with no redundancy pay because I'd been 'offered' a job at another branch (more than 1/4 of my wages on transport and 3 hours round trip away). So now, no, it's not my job0 -
Guys i'll keep it brief not to take the thread off topic, sorry if my post read wrong, I work in retail too, so really wasn't having a go at the sales assistant, she was lovely, it was the managers/supervisors attitude that shocked me.
Back to the bagains
The rice spoons have been really handy, i've been using then as serving spoons. The paprika crisps 39p in the carboard tubes, nice flavour, but the two I had were a bit damp.
The biggest bargain I had was the surcare washing powder 79p for 13 washes.0 -
Durham HB today had 1kg bags of Kenco coffee beans £2.99.
School footcare gift pack with one of those angle grinder type gizmos for pedicures, nail clippers, nail brush etc £6.99 (rrp £24.99)
Pink mp3 accesory giftsets with speakers and various cables and headphones £2.99.
Also had the spring roll wraps, the Jane Asher spoons (did I buy one??) and cheap exfoliating gloves, great for scrubbing new potatoes0 -
That may explain the funny looks I get in Aldi with my shopping bag - I put the stuff in it, walk round with it over my arm with the handles wide apart and when I put something in it I tend to "check" to see if its too heavy, then empty it at the till and purposefully scrunch the bag up under my arm to show its empty. Well if they supplied baskets I wouldn't do that would I :rotfl: Daren't get a mini-trolley either as I always end up getting more than I can carry then and they still look at me funny!
I do the same in Aldi, not noticed any funny looks, but normally have two screaming toddlers with me, so generally assume people stare at me because of the screaming!!!0 -
Just found out via the HB website that there are two new stores opening in Scotland. Wishaw opens in August so any time soon and there is one opening at Glenrothes in Fife but no date for it yet.0

Went into my local at Chelmsley Wood today, not been in for a while, and brought some non bio Filetti washing powder, with almond milk and vitamin E. £1.99 for a 2.5 kg bag, just put washing on, it smells quite nice, will have to wait and see what the results are when it comes out.0

As well as Glenrothes they hope to open in Kirkcaldy, "hopefully in October" I was told.0
