Joint bank account and disputes with overdraft

Hello.
I was wondering someone could help or has a sample letter anywhere?
I split from my partner 2 years ago. There is still a joint account with £3000 overdraft on it which is maxed and my ex-partner is refusing to settle half of the balance. As he himself is a bank manager I am wondering whether he has the tight to do this? I was of the impression that it was joint debt?
Has any one experienced this situation. What did you do? If I needed to go to solicitor is this costly and what type of solicitor would deal with this dispute. We were never married.
Thanks

hi ya
same sort of situ here i split with my partner 6 months ago and our joint account has a balance of £1200 OD he wont pay a penny to it and as far as the bank is concerned (lloyds) even if i pay half i would still be jointly liable for the other £600 left!!! fuming and left in a situ were to remove myself finacially from him i will need to pay it cos he is never going to bother!
though if his a bank manager he has more to loose on credit side of things? where as my ex couldnt care less...
hope this helps..not tht its wht you wanted to hear im sure!!! :j OFFICIAL DFW NERD NO 159 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH OUR DEBTS:beer: :j
If you do a job well, people won't be sure you've done anything at all
Must claim back bank charges!!!:rolleyes:0 -
Yes both parties are liable for the whole amount of any overdraft on any joint account.0

It is a joint debt for which you are both 100% responsible.
But, if he truely is a bank manager then I would think he has more to lose than you if the a/c is defaulted.
I don't know the full circumstances, but couldn't you point out to him that if he won't pay his share, then you won't pay either and you will just let the a/c default with significant adverse effect on his career?0 -
Same happened to me - I've had to pay up because he didn't/wouldn't - still, I'm nearly there & well rid of him........ Good luck.
