Painting newly plastered walls

Hello, I recently had my walls and ceiling (in my living room) replastered. I have painted the walls (and ceiling) with a watered down coat of paint.

Should I do a second layer of watered down paint or should I just paint normally? Thanks

Do a few coats of watered down paint to save the wall sucking in the thicker more expensive paint.

Normally I PVA a freshly plastered wall (once dried out) first so that it forms a seals over the porous surface.

water based paints do not adhere to pva glue - it's a decorating no no

you can give 2nd can be thinned down , do not use so much water

    I agree :T

Again I agree :T , if its a good quality paint, then definately thin it down.

I never use paint from the can, whether its the final coat or not, I always add some water, not for tightness, as the client keeps the paint anyway, but you get a far better finish, if you slightly thin down your coats.:D

OK think I'll start on the second coat with watered down paint. What sort of %? 75% paint 25% water. The first was roughly half and half but probably closer to 60% paint.

if it's a paint such as dulux trade - 10% if it was purchased in a diy store 5%
  • a big tub of magnolia budget paint from B&Q at about £12 is more than enough to give your walls a couple of coats and works pretty well for a base/primer coat
