Parking in Leeds city centre?

Hi all,
I'm about to start a job in Leeds city centre (near the train station to be precise) and I'll be commuting by car from Sheffield. Can anyone offer any tips for where to park around there for as little as possible? Obviously I don't want to be walking for ages in the mornings as I'll be pushed for time, but I don't expect to park right next to the train station. There is a car park near by but it's £7.50 a day

£3.50 a day opposite the round foundry, just off Water Lane, about 5 mins walk from Train station.
Google 'Round Foundry Media Centre' to get exact address.
Or have a search for parking spaces on Gumtree, there is a glut of City centre flats with allocated parking that people dont use, but will let out for around £70-90 a month.0 -
I'd recommend catching the train. The train from Sheffield to Leeds only takes about 25 minutes and is quite regular if I remember correctly. Driving will take much longer than the train, especially at the popular times of day and as you say you have the problem of parking when you get there.
Other places to look for parking include...Can't remember the prices of any of them sorry but I think they generally compete at about the same sort of price.
Sweet street - just off the M621 coming off the junction for city centre, take the left past Halfords. This is relatively close to the train station. Don't think there's many spaces there though.
I believe there is also somewhere on Whitehall road which is not far from the train station. Here's where I believe it is http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=M621+%4053.771753,+-1.588496&daddr=Whitehall+Rd+%4053.794691,+-1.555961&hl=en&geocode=17873852844208603884,53.771753,-1.588496%3B16474550508660734765,53.792980,-1.559993%3B17863433136239684975,53.794691,-1.555961&mra=ls&sll=53.791361,-1.555853&sspn=0.013423,0.013111&ie=UTF8&ll=53.794415,-1.55669&spn=0.013423,0.013111&t=h&z=16
If you're willing to walk about 25 minutes into Leeds I could list some free places to park.0 -
try around whitehall rd ,water lane ,domestic street theres parking from £3.50 a day upwards0

Thanks to everyone that replied - some very useful info there.
I would consider the train but I'll be out of the office a lot too and really could do with my car. Does anyone know what the rush-hour traffic up the M1 is like? Also, when I looked it looked like the train too around an hour.
Anewman - I'd consider walking in a bit if it meant free parking but do you know any near the South of Leeds, close to where I'd be coming off the motorway anyway so as to minimize the travelling time?
Thanks, I know I'm asking a lot! :j0 -
Here's one area - not 100% sure if there are any parking restrictions in the area - and I guess residents might be a bit funny if people park outside their house to walk into town in that area. The area looks relatively safe to park a car from what I recall though - but don't know about crime figures.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=Prosper+St+%4053.782660,+-1.530752&daddr=Leeds,+Leeds,+LS1+(Leeds+Railway+Station)&hl=en&geocode=2329496034757896903,53.782660,-1.530752%3B13494422478405489613,53.794164,-1.547580&mra=pe&mrcr=0&dirflg=w&sll=53.802255,-1.562771&sspn=0.429439,0.41954&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=15
Or there's Hunslet Morrisons car park http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=The+Oval+%4053.780158,+-1.530647&daddr=53.796128,-1.547731&hl=en&geocode=2542956903530551197,53.780158,-1.530647%3B12845233461146575452,53.796128,-1.547731&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=53.78815,-1.539155&sspn=0.026849,0.026221&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=15 I don't think there are any parking restrictions in this particular car park - but do double check.
Then other than those above there's this general area Not sure I would want to park my car there myself
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=53.796128,-1.547731&daddr=Nineveh+Parade+%4053.785742,+-1.554682&hl=en&geocode=12845233461146575452,53.796128,-1.547731%3B2542956903530551197,53.780158,-1.530647%3B16603276831221043129,53.785742,-1.554682&sll=53.785669,-1.554823&sspn=0.013425,0.013111&mra=ls&dirflg=w&ie=UTF8&ll=53.790093,-1.551068&spn=0.013424,0.013111&t=h&z=16
This looks like a possibility but I don't think I know the area http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=53.796128,-1.547731&daddr=Shafton+Ln+%4053.785380,+-1.562370&hl=en&geocode=12845233461146575452,53.796128,-1.547731%3B16603276831221043129,53.785742,-1.554682%3B138014757521491969,53.785380,-1.562370&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=53.786176,-1.56283&sspn=0.013539,0.033045&ie=UTF8&ll=53.785314,-1.562161&spn=0.003356,0.003278&t=h&z=180 -
The M1 is horrendous. The traffic trying to get into Leeds backs up past J40(North Bound) and this is before 8am. You really should consider the train and do you want to be driving 80 miles a day (400 a week). Hope you are getting a good salary to pay for all the fuel.
If you insist on driving then you won't get affordable car parking unless you are in Leeds before 7.45am

the drive commute can be terrible.
I drive from J38 of the M1 to Elland Road turn off on the M621. Can be very standstill all the way. same with driving back.
I join J38 at around 8 in the morning, it takes around 35 minutes on a good commuting day (very rare) to get to my junction. on a completely clear day (i.e. a weekend), a trip would take 10-15 minutes.
If i was driving to wellington street by the train station in leeds, it'd take 45-50 minutes.
the worst it has taken me to get to that point is around 1 hour and 30 minutes. and thats only 13/14 miles, without any accidents or anything. Plus they are installing a safety barrier at lofthouse interchange(where the M1 meets the M62) and theres currently an average speed check of 50mph, as well as the average speedcheck on the M621 of 40mph (where they are doing the same thing).
seriously, a drive commute from sheffield is going to be hell. (especially as you'd have to go past barnsley junctions as well.)
I've even set off at 730, and still not got to the same area till 840.
there are definitely plenty of trains to/from sheffield, i think they run every 15 minutes or so. and would imagine they take around 30/40minutes.0 -
gah, should read the dates of the messages.0
