Advice - where do I get soda crystals etc?

  • Ah, right, thanks :)

So, with powder (which I do prefer to use rather than the tablets) would I substitute half the powder with the soda crystals then? Is that how it works? Sorry if this is really obvious, but I've never even heard of soda crystals before, never mind used them :o

Thats what most people do half and half. When you buy the soda crystals it should have intructions for use on the packet - the last pack i bought did.

I have started using Vanish for various reasons and make up washing powder in batches that I keep in a plastic container. I use 20 scoops washing powder, 25 scoops soda crystals and 10 scoops Vanish. I use half a scoop to a scoop depending on the load. My washing seems cleaner than when I used washing powder alone.

Hi again. Thanks I'll have a good look next time I'm out shopping.:T I usually go to Sainsburys as it's near work and I can do the weeks shop in my lunch hour.

I put 50/50 persil/soda crystals in the wash and when I was ironing last night everything was lovely and soft. :jThe other thing I liked was that they smelt fresh and clean, but not strongly of perfume/fragrance. I don't use fabric softener (I use dryer balls, when I use the dryer). I do try to use the line, but this is mainly at weekends (assuming it's not raining), as there are 5 of us and I work full time, so I have to wash every day or my laundry takes over.

What do I do with white vinegar?:o

Also what's the best way to clean my shower drain, as the water flows out very slowly. I'm scared to put a hook down it as there is no access under the tray if I separated/holed the pipes  (which I did to the bath and DH was not best pleased).

Just been to Tescos and noticed that soda crystals are now 39p. This summer they dropped to 28p:D and then shot back up to their normal price of (I think) 59p:eek:.

I stocked up when they were 28p but for those who didn't, and use a lot, maybe now is the time to buy, buy, buy.;)
  • Thanks magentasue, it looks like Tesco is the only place doing them at that price at the moment. I'll have to ask someone to get me some.

I bought some Soda Crystals last week from Tesco's and they were 59p - I'd got all worked up seeing on here that people had bought them for 30-odd pence. Was gutted :(

Have started using white vinegar for softner - how much should I be using? Where do you get your white vinegar from? Anywhere you can bulk buy it??

Wilkinsons is a good place for old style cleaning products. I bought a big box of Bicarb of Soda in there and it was in the cleaning aisle. I don't know if it is the same stuff that you use for baking but I think I'll stick to the small tubs of it from Sainsburys for my cakes and biscuits!! :o
I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!
