What does a Statutory Declaration involve?

Options
Hi,

Does anyone have experience of what a 'Statutory declaration' involves in cases of adverse possession? Do you have to go to a solicitor to do one?

Thanks.

Paulina.

I've found this article for you:

I'm pretty sure that a stat declaration has to be witnessed by a solicitor or notary public. This costs about a fiver. But from the detailed information that it appears you have to give, it would seem sensible to me to get a lawyer to draw one up for you so you can ensure that it covers all the necessary points.
  • Hi Fondue,

Thanks for the link. The reason I'm asking is I have to ask the previous owner of my house to do one, and I want to know what they will have to do.

I suspect that they will ask you to get it drawn up and pay for them to have their signature witnessed anyway.
