After reading a few threads about them offering a debit card with their ready cash account, I went on their site and to open an account you either have to ring them or go into a branch. I live no where near one, so I rang the number to be told that I have to open them in branch.
Has anyone else managed to open one online?

It's impossible to do it online or over the phone.
Like you said, you'll be guided to the nearest branch and will have to book an appointment to then open said account0 -
Please be aware (the above is correct) you can also go to Clydesdale Bank if in Scotland or down south.0

You can apply online for some products, like the term deposit account.
Just wondering, if you are an existing customer, could you then apply online or by phone for their current account ?0 -
No you can't.
But I have to say, it's well worth the journey for two reasons (if you don't have a Yorkshire or Clydesdale near).
a. You can do anything you want after opening an account without being near one (ie through post office or internet). In other words it'll be just one journey and that's it.
b. They're a great bank. Best of the lot in my opinion.
Please do be warned though, whereas I have a branch virtually next door, I know of some others (especially "down south") who have been refused an account for living out of "their area", particularly in London where there's only one branch (apparently).0 -
HI - i had been reading all the posts regarding Yorkshire - it has taken me weeks to finally take a day off work to go the branch in the west end . I was in/ out of there offices withing 10 minutes. There systems were down - so the advisor told me he would call me with account no details. This morning he rang and gave me the account no etc- pin/card will arrrive in 7 days.
You may be able to upgrade after 3 months worth of salary payments going in.
The fact that you cant process new appl on line is a pain But most people seem to be happy with them. And they dont get as much negitive postings as Abbey, Natwest, lloyds.0 -
If you email the CEO Lynne.Peacock@eu.nabgroup.com she will arrange for your local branch to get in contact and send you out an application form.
Hope this helps.
