however, if I cancel it will go against him, a black mark so to speak because a client cancelled. Do you think that's correct?
Leaving aside any financial technicalities, or whether it is correct, the fact that he has mentioned it at all to you is tantamount to emotional blackmail. I would be very loathe to deal with anyone who sought to exert such control in that manner.Debbie0 -
I wouldn't listen to what any old person on the internet is saying. However you can be quite sure that if Dunstonh says you would be better cancelling and seeing an IFA then you definitely would be.You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0

Thanks again, everyone. I just posted off the cancellation forms; I sent them by registered post (stood in the longest queue!). Maybe a bit overboard sending it off registered but I wanted to cover myself and have proof I sent it.
Thanks for the explanation, dunstonh about commissions. It is wordplay then and a bit sneaky in a way, isn't it (as one of the selling points seem to be that IFAs are not to be trusted as they want to make money off you, while SW doesn't).
Never realised investing could be so bewildering!
Will now wait till my money is back safe and sound in my account.

WhoHo! This is called "The make 'em cry close"
It's used to play on people's emotions to do something they probably wouldn't do otherwise!
E.g. "If I don't hit target this month, I wont get a bonus and I won't be able to pay my mortgage and my wife's just had a baby; If you buy this product then everything will be OK - it's up to you!" etc. etc.
Tell the bloke to eff off!0
