Transferring Euros to Pounds

I am currently living in Germany but will be moving back to the UK in the new year. I currently have a German bank account, with savings in Euros. However, I would like to transfer the money back to GBP. What would be the best way to do this without having to pay huge transfer fees or losing out on the commercial bank exchange rate.
