Brother says they're both the same, but the lite is smaller and lighter."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

They play the same games.
But the DS lite is smaller and perhaps most importantly the screen is much MUCH better.0 -
Yes the DS lite has a backlit screen (I think thats the term...) so its much brighter and easier to see. Apart from that and the size they are the same.0

I think the DS Lite also has a better battery, so will last for longer between charges.

the ds lite had a smaller stylus, and the screen quality is like night and day.
If you're getting the old DS for free, then it's OK, but imho it's not worth paying good money for once you see the DS lite.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I've got a DS original and have been tempted to upgrade but cannot justify the cost. Yes, the original uses a stylus, and they both play the same games. I believe the lite version has a better screen and a longer battery life, and is more compact. But apart from that I don't know. If you're unsure which to buy then go for the lite - unless cost is a factor, because you should be able to get a second-hand original for considerably less than the lite. The original is still a good machine, but yes, the lite is better.0

Have you thought about trading it at Game or similar, I was surprised how much they will offer for the original DS. If you have some games you dont play as well you could be almost there. They offer a much better price if you take credit instead of cash and spend it there and then.

I'm half-tempted just to give it to my son (age 3 - and likes playing "I did it mum" and similar) and buy myself a lite. He's covered it in sticky fingerprints, and has dropped it several times, so that it's not quite as pristine as it was before he got his grubby paws on it...Have you thought about trading it at Game or similar, I was surprised how much they will offer for the original DS. Don't have any games to trade in at the mo - try to keep the number of games I have to a minimum, otherwise I end up with a stack that I never play, just depreciating in value. Having said that, I'm now up to about 10 Wii games, most of which I've got about zero chance of completing (and I've read that Okami has a 60 hour main quest
)... 0
