BT - 12 month contract aftre connection

Hi

I've recently had a line connected in my new build house and understood that this meant I had to pay line rental / call plan with BT for 12 months. Someone I know said that there is no 'contract' with BT to do this and I could just cancel my Direct Debit and take a call package with, say, Tiscali.

If I get a package with Tiscali would I be paying BT anything at all directly?

Your line rental Contract with BT is for 12 months, if you move your line rental to another supplier BT will charge you a £70 cancellation fee and also the residue of any chargeable call plan. (Their Free Evening and Weekend Call 12 month contract is chargeable if you have it and break contract).

"If you cancel your order after we provide the service you will incur an early termination charge. This charge will be based on the outstanding minimum period of your 12 or 18 month term."
