Brother has a Compaq Evo n1005v laptop and wants to increase the memory. At present it is a puny 256Mb. Have been on the crucial.com website where it says he can have two 512Mb cards fitted.
Is the crucial.com the best website for prices and quality or can you recommend any other websites?
Where can i find fitting instructions for the laptop?
Thanks in advance to those who replied.

Laptops are said to be fussy with memory but I've upgraded 3 in my time and never had a problem. Just make sure you get something thats compatible with your laptop. Crucial are a manufacturer, you might get a better deal somewhere else. You shouldn't go wrong with them though.0

Crucial website will also do a scan of the laptop and reccomend best memory.
Think they also do a money back guarantee if they reccomend the wrong sort

id go for crucial they take all the guess work and effort out of looking for memory also they are not expensive and do free delivery
i just got 4gb for my laptop for around 60 quid came next dayThe orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.0 -
I find http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=777 have quite good prices for buying RAM0

Recently bought from crucial myself. Got a link for 5% discout (it all helps!) and bought the RAM, worked fine but didnt get the discount. Quick email, they apologised and gave me the 5% discount and reduced the carriage. Good quality product and service IMO:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

I did the scan on crucial - got the details of the ram I needed and bought them on 'collect at store'' from pcworld. Cheapest place I could find oddly enough!0

Crucial are usually nearly the cheapest. However, they do offer an unconditional guarantee and 7% quidco0

Crucial at 20 pounds each, are almost double the price of my suggestion. Which, incidentally, does also have a Lifetime Warranty.
Crucial does not even stock PC2100 memory, so the OP has probably purchased whatever Crucial said would work.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
The memory i need is 512mb 200 pin SODIMM DDR PC2700.
What is the difference between DDR266 and DDR333? I believe 333 is faster. All i know is all the memory fitted should be 266 or 333 and not a mixture.
Donnie - your link refers to ddr266
