Getting a Wii to connect thru wireless router

Got my new wireless router last week courtesy of Tiscali. We have a Nintendo Wii in the same room which refuses to connect to the web through this new equipment. It finds the wireless router o.k but fails connection test with every permutation of security codes dished out by my p.c. Router is a Siemens SE587 WLAN dsl linked to an XP machine. I note that Wii's also have the option of connecting to the router via cable ( which somehow defeats the object ) or via a wireless usb adapter ( again , somehow defeats the object ) . Would prefer to keep it simple if poss.

Why are you getting security codes from your PC? The only one you need is the key you entered in the wifi security settings when you set up the wifi on your router.0

This is what I get from my p.c using wireless network setup wizard.....
Network Name (SSID): net
Network Key (WEP/WPA Key): 391847b9375f4ee0872f561a2ffb8a2466bbc4442ab720a04aa983ce******
Key Provided Automatically (802.1x): 0
Network Authentication Type: WPAPSK
Data Encryption Type: TKIP
Connection Type: ESS
Key Index:
I've tried variations on WEP / WPA protocols in the hope that I can get it to work, always inputting the big code into the Wii so that it can piggy back onto the connection. No luck so far though !0 -
There are no codes given out by your pc!!
Set the wii to wpa / tkip (Does the wii only do wep??)
Make sure the network key is correct, You have 62, does wii accept that many? Very long to type in exactly without mistakes. Turn encryption off to test settings/network key settings.0 -

Thanks - managed to initiate a successful connection by disabling security on router - does this now have to stay disabled for me to continue ??:T0
