And enough about my personal life
I recently bought a dvd surround sound as it sounded a really good deal from the grabbit section. i have it all set up and when playing dvd's it sounds terrific. My problem is that i cant get the speakers set up so the tv plays thru them. I also have a v+ box if that makes any difference?
I went into currys today (they sell the same system) and was told it would need an optical cable and this would cost £100:eek: )
I'd be so grateful if someone could help me. We have a Panasonic plasma tv and the dvd surround sound system is this one

Many many thanks

Not sure about what you need exactly, but my optical cable to connect my sky+ box to my surround cost £2 off of Ebay! I think optical cables are pretty much standard.
Amazon seem to recommend this on the same page :-

From your link I see they cost 99p for 1m and £1.99p for a 2m
Panasonic use Veira link, do you have it with your Sony?0 -
Thanks, thats terrific help. Just wish i'd ordered it at the same time
Do you think the v+ works the same as sky+ and i should connect the surround sound to that and not the tv?0 -

Take the standard stereo audio output and feed it into the sony amp. Use scart/phono/optical whatever it uses, bog standard, no high voltages, easy to do, no brainer, set the sony to to the correct audio/sound source and away you go, wanna swop for a week?0

There are two main types of digital connection: Optical, using the Toslink connector as shown in the link that Belnahua posted, and Coaxial, which use a connector that resembles a TV aerial plug.
The only way I can make sense of the comment from Currys about something costing £100 is if the output from the TV is one digital format and the input on the amp is the other - in which case you would need two cables and a converter, though even those 3 items should not cost £100.
You can check which type you have simply by looking at them, as they are visibly very different. If you have a Toslink output on the TV and a similar one as an input on the Sony box then get an optical cable and it should work fine.0
