Please advise,
can anybody give me a ball park figure for replacing a starter motor in a kia carens year 2000 model.
Silly I know but mine in in the garage waiting for the motor to arrive been there since last monday (we live out in the sticks on an island in the outer hebridies so it takes ages for parts to arrive )
I have rang the garage and twice they have told me they wont know what it will cost until part arrives. I'm getting worried now  I am a single parent who works part time and has 6 miles to work each day no buses go from here to work, so I realy NEED my car. I also cant afford much car tax just due and phone bill arrived and need to give my son £100 this weeks to go to army interview on the mainland. SO I realy need to know what this is going to cost.
ANY IDEAS?:confused::confused:

They start on ebay from £9.99.
Obviously they will be fitting a brand new one whcih will cost a few quid. suggest to them that you'd like a 2nd hand one fitted.
try www.partsgateway.co.uk to give you an idea.

Is the starter motor servicable - can't the garage repair it?

Is it a petrol or diesel model? Some Kia starters are shared with Mazda's and it may be a Veleo starter (which should be fairly readily available).
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

There's nothing stopping you getting out a Haynes manual and some spanners.

Unless you have this sort of issue....

quick note just to let you know I just got my bill for the car total £188.23.
I am so pleased I had put away £400 for it so I can now pay another bill.
£60 was labour not bad i think.
Also if you are wondering why I only just got the bill. I live on an island and we still work the old fashioned way here. Have the work done get the car back and then get the bill in the post. Well you couldnt run far and not pay could you?
This is the first time I have been pleased at a garage bill. I'd rather not have one but this has cheared me up.
    Have a nice day.

Here too. My local garage is 400 yds away. It can take them up to a week to deliver the bill. They also bring the car back and park it on the drive, although that could be because one of the mechanics lives opposite me:rolleyes: .

It's good if you break down before pay day. My bill even says I have 28 days to pay. Got it today will be paying on Monday. I never know when I may need them again. I just hope people don't abuse this system or we will loose it.
