Grattan "returns internet service".....

Yes, it's supposed to be quick and simple!???

I recently used Grattan catalouges on line facilities to order a new hoover, first of all I didn't know wether or not the order had gone through or not because the pages are so badly designed then when I got a knock on the door and a hoover handed to me I got my answer, the courier had no uniform and just handed it to me then said "thanks". By the look on my face you could tell it was a complete surprise, I could have been anyone, wrong address etc.
Anyway, I had requested it to be returned through the internet, for the next day or so, can't quite remember, suprisingly enough it wasn't collected and a different courier from a different catalouge company told me that he would return it for me as they do returns for Grattan, he had to ring up and check first!! I had no confirmation of the return from Grattan at all, so I emailed them to ask wether they had recieved the hoover. I recieved a reply God knows how long after saying that Grattan do not use that particular named courier so could I please ring their 0845 number to speak to an adviser immidiately. I did no such thing and checked my account by email around a week later and the return was there saying they had recieved the hoover, everything fine.
THEN, I ordered a pair of trainers, in between all the fussing about the return of the hoover, may I add. :o They were to small so again I requested they be picked up by a courier and guess what  no one came........I rang them up around TWO WEEKS later, the period by which you have to decide if you want to keep your order and the lady put the return in on the computer system and said the internet doesn't always work! Well I never, you don't say???!!! She extended the term by another MONTH! and they still haven't come to pick it up!
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm starting to think that the organ grinder left a long time ago and the monkeys sit about with there feet up smoking cigars!! What the hell should I do??????

I stopped shopping with Kays as they started using "local couriers" - eg people in the local area with a car!

The man for my area was an early riser and made some deliveries at 6.30am and knocked us out of bed, so I had to ask him to stop coming so early. If I wasn't in when he delivered, he'd roll clothes up and stuff them through the letter box. Annoying when you've bought "ready to wear" items on hangers in suit bags, and they've laid in a heap on the floor and are crumpled to death. For collections, the label said the courier could call between 9am and 9pm, but he refused to come after 12 noon. As I worked part time then, and arrived home at 1.15pm there was ample time during the rest of the day for him to collect things, but he refused to come then. Due to his attitude Kays lost a long standing customer.

I would try writing a recorded delivery letter to Grattan explaining that nobody has collected the trainers. Advise them if they are not collected in a reasonable time, you'll charge storage fees for them. Hopefully that should get them collected.

It would put me off ordering anything from them again though.
Here I go again on my own....
  • God that sounds bad! I'm with Kays already! Funnily enough I recieved a welcome phone call from them to see if I had recieved my hoover. The man on the other end started coughing down the actual reciever which was quite disgusting, he didn't listen to a word I said and was offering me the usual scripted "...if your hoover breaks down, it's very expensive you'll need an extra guarantee which we offer blah, blah, blah"
The kays courier was the one who offered to return it for me he was really helpful, they were a proper company though. It sounds like Grattan have the same idea though about anyone who happens to have a car in the area!!!

I have always shopped with Grattan and never had any problem! My courier is a lovely lady who always has time for a chat at the door and has even sealed parcels, labels etc for me when she has arrived befor I am ready. I always phone the number on the parcel (her own telephone number) rather than arrange the collection online as it is always faster that way. I guess it must depend on who is the courier for your area.

I find it is not always convienient for me to wait in for a courier, so I just take the parcel to the post office(unless it's too heavy, then I'll wait in) and do it that way, I think most catologues still use the PO for returns as well as couriers.
  • Hmmm, theres only the Grattan customer services number on there otherwise I would. It's not just the courier it's the website, it's slow, badly designed and takes milleniums to update!!!! Glad you get a good service, the prices are great just the service needs a little tweaking!
