Looking for a new current account provider

Hi Folks
To cut a long story short I have been with Clydesdale Bank for about 20 years and just don't feel I get any service from them anymore - they send me a statement once every month and erm.....that's it.
So I am really looking for another current account provider - it will be a joint account with my wife and salaries combined (she works part time) will be around £2300 roughly. I was looking at First Direct due to the tempter they are providing with the introductory bonus etc but wondered what people's experience are of them - also they have the £1500 min for putting in regular monthly payments - does this mean a joint salary transfer or apply to one person?
Sorry for confusion but I do this to myself a lot

The £1,500 requirement is total joint income in the case of a joint account.
Consider keeping the Clydesdale account open (and ticking over) because 20 years 'time with bank' will be good for your credit rating.0 -

That's it ? They pay your bills on time, they pay the right amount everytime, they don't send threatening letters for debts you don't owe, you Debit Card works everytime you try and use it.
I was with Clydesdale for 10 years, they sent me a statement every month - that was it. When I moved back down South I moved to HSBC - that when all the things I mentioned above started going wrong - and more !
Stay put !0 -
Have to agree with moonrakerz.
I've been with Yorkshire Bank (same Clydesdale group) nearly 29 years now. Despite having a total of 8 current accounts at the moment (for various reasons), my Yorkshire Bank account is still my 'bills' account. And as soon as I've received my FD £100 'leaving present' my salary will be diverted back there.
It does what it says on the tin...well!0 -
Perhaps I over simplified it - we have had our problems....but don't want to drag the thread down. I don't have a problem keeping the account open and originally had my mortgage with them but have subsequently moved this away.
What would happen if I used a new providers facility to move current accounts - does this just move funds and direct debits etc or does it actually close your old account down?Mortgage when started October 2011 : £94,134

I've never used a provider's switching service and I never will...there's so much that can - and does - go wrong!freddykrueger wrote: »What would happen if I used a new providers facility to move current accounts - does this just move funds and direct debits etc or does it actually close your old account down?
You can usually elect to have them do everything, or select which you want them to do from a list...
Move DD's*
Move SO's*
Move Salary
Move funds (usually only done if the old account is being closed)
* You can often specify some, not all, of these for switching automatically (and do the main ones yourself).0 -
What is the problem with your bank if you don't mind me asking please?Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

It was to do with some unauthorised transactions on my account - flagged it up to them immediately and then spent a couple of months persuading them that I wasn't in Southampton at the time of the transactions (I live in Scotland). It was just all a real hassle.Mortgage when started October 2011 : £94,134

Maybe a gentle call to the customer retention department with a complaint will go in your favour...;)freddykrueger wrote: »It was to do with some unauthorised transactions on my account - flagged it up to them immediately and then spent a couple of months persuading them that I wasn't in Southampton at the time of the transactions (I live in Scotland).
