Uploading from HD Camcorder....

Hi Guys

I have a Sanyo HD1000 Camcorder - I've taken lots of footage, but when I connect the camcorder to the pc none of the files are showing. I've tried it on my daughters laptop and she can see the files (in mpeg4 format though). Unfortunately neither of us are very 'computer clever', so does anyone have any idea of how I can get these files on my computer?

Thanks xxxx

    You don't say what OS you have on your PC. If it's a very old one (e.g. Win 95) then it may not have USB drivers installed.

    If it's a recent OS, is the camcorder recognised as a USB device when connected to the PC (e.g. in Windows, does it appear as a removable storage device in My Computer)?

    Sorry :o - you can tell what a novice I am!

    My OS is XP and yes it does appear as a removable storage device in My Computer, its just that when you click on it it is showing the device as empty. My daughters laptop however runs on Vista - again it shows as a removeable storage device but when you click on it on hers it shows the files! :confused: Any advice is very much appreciated!:D

    Hi,
    Looks like it might be a common issue. There's a solution to the problem at http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=94874&forum_id=27 but it is a bit techy!

    I would follow Jimmymac1000 solution here it is a edited slightly:
    1. Go to Start>Run and type: regedit then press Enter
    2. In the window that appears goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT> mp4>ShellEx
    3. Right click Shellex and go to New>Key
    4. Create a Key in there named {BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}
    with a string value of {c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}
    5. Restart PC

    So then you have :
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    .mp4
    ShellEx
    {BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1} with a value of (Default) Reg_SZ {c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}
