Only thing I didn't do was connect the hob as I don't like messing with gas, done by a Corgi registered fitter for £20.
PLEASE people, don't try connecting your own gas - REALLY REALLY dangerous and highly illegal - you mustget a CORGI registered gas fitter to do this!!! (And the bad news is that I can't think that many will charge as little as £20)
Also, useful information....my friend who is a very high class kitchen carpenter says that the best carcasses (kitchen cupboard backs - everything except the doors!) come from IKEA - known for being good in the trade, apparently!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Warning!
Please remember that you should always use a professional for gas maintenance and complex electrical repairs. Being safe is more important than MoneySaving.

I actually knoew the gas fitter hence the £20 charge.
As for the mitres on the worktops, I did thiwithout using the expensive router jigs. It took a bit more time but the finish is excellent just needs alot of patience.0 -

I would never try plastering. I have done lots of flat pack furniture, though (and have repeatedly sworn I will never do it again , never shop at Argos again because of their deliberately misleading instructions etc.) and having seen our kitchen being installed am quite confident I could have a go at that one day!
well would you try removing you car engine if it nedded replaced? i wouldn't because I know I couldn't do it without help. Ive never tried but i know my limitations.0 -
Problem is I don't! :doh:micko2602 wrote:i know my limitations.
I see a few TV makeover shows where they transform a room in 2 days and become convinced that I can do it just as well as they can and end up making a mess!
Trying to strip all the woodwork in my bedroom was probably the stupidest thing I ever tried! :rotfl:0 -

So what did you use and what kind of joint do you have.0 -
The mitre cus is the same shape and size as you would get using a jig, except it is measured and marked on by hand first.gogsboy wrote:So what did you use and what kind of joint do you have.
Cut the two lengths of bench top to required length. Then marked a mitred cut along both pieces of bench top and cut using a hand saw and jig saw. My mates done this quite a few times and it is as good a finish as you can get with a router. The two surfaces are then joined with a matching coloured adhesive (which is actually laminate floor repair stuff) and while being pushed firmly together are screwed in place to the cupboart carcase. The excess adhesive is wiped away with thinners and the joint is virtually invisible.0 -
just bought a kitchen from mfi, had some horrendous quotes from kitchen people, fitted most of it myself if you buy the schriber :j range they come delivered as built up units all you do is fit the top and doors, the hygena range is a flat pack  : so you have to build up yourself so avoid, the best thing is they have a great sale on at the moment ,i got a big kitchen with all appliances for less than £4000 , i was getting quotes of over £8000 i spent an extra £200 for the electrician, £175 plumber but fitted the kitchen in a weekend with the help of the wife....mfi
sale ends 2/11/050 -
So Does anyone know any good kitchen deals at the moment? B&Q have a sale on OKish doors, but I don't know much about the quality. Any places worth checking out?
i take it is is better value to buy cooker and dishwasher etc from currys or somewhere rather than B&Q or similar.
I know nothing about kitchen buying, and need, well, everything- all advice welcome!
Thanks!0 -
Some places offer discounts on you appliances when you buy you kitchen with them. I got my oven hob and extractot for half price as I bought y kitchen from wickes. I couldnt get it cheaper anywhere esle so It was a good deal.0
