Amazon USA

Hi

I am looking to buy a camcorder and as I have a amazon gift certifcate, wanted to buy it from Amazon. Amazon.co.uk have it for £350 and they are selling it through a third party (purely gadgets- has anyone had any experince of them?) for £300 with a 18 month guarantee.

I have noticed that amazon.com (USA) are doing the camcorder once the currency is converted for £250.

Now I am confused, has anyone ordered anything from amazon.com? was there any problems? Also if anything went wrong with the camcorder, who would I contact?

Should I buy it from Purely Gadgets? I havent ever heard if them ,and dont want headaches later on if things go wrong.

Thanks for your help

I may be wrong, but I don't think Amazon.com will ship electronics items out of the USA... See HERE
  • Just a quick pointer, you can't use gift vouchers on marketplace orders

What does marketplace orders mean? I thought marketplace was when you purchase their refurbished products from the warehouse?

marketplace is their own kind of private version of ebay except its fixed price rather than auctions and the products are either new or used

Also minor point but you can't use Amazon.co.uk gift certificates on Amazon.com and vice versa. Also there is a shipping cost from Amazon.com

You can order from Amazon USA through a third party shipping company. Basically they give you an american address and you can get orders sent to it and then onto you for a small fee.

As people have already said, you can't use Amazon UK vouchers at Amazon.com and Amazon.com won't ship electronics out of the USA. Also if you could get it shipped to the UK, P&P, Customs and VAT would probably be more than £100 and the warranty is likely only to be valid in the USA.
  • I have bought a Panasonic NVGS400 camcorder from easygadget.co.uk which is now the purelygadgets that you refer to-saved £300 at the time and they shipped within 48hrs,NO problems with them and they offer a free extended warranty. Apparently you can pick up direct from their warehouse in London if you live there...which is reassuring.

Well I guess that settles the amazon.com query. if I cant use my gift certificate there then its pointless me looking into it.

Has anyone used Purely Gadgets before? Are they a reputable company?

    Thanks

  • Oh yes don't forget that you may get stung for import duty and VAT if buying from the US not to mention the voltage difference!
