Nationwide - Gold/Classic Card

in Credit cards
I'm 24 and earn £20k/pa. I recently applied for a Nationwide CC (have had a current account with them for years) and was accepted online.
I'm well aware that you have to be over 25 and earn over £25k/pa to get the Gold card and anything less, if accepted, you get the Classic card (slightly higher rate but it doesn't matter to me cos I'm only using it as a balance transfer 0% and will have paid it off in the 10mths anyway).
Now that the card had arrived, it's a Gold card. Should I phone them and query it? As far as I'm aware, I told the complete truth on my online application, but perhaps I selected the wrong year (1983 instead of 1984) in the dropdown box or something!

You told the truth which, if they want to later they can verify. They sent you a Gold Card so enjoy.0 -
I phoned them. The first response I got was "Well, don't you want a Gold card?!" - no, not if I'm not entitled to it and you're going to take it off me in a few months!
The girl I spoke to went away to speak to a manager and they came to the conclusion that I must have a really good credit rating and therefore was eligible for a Gold card after all. She reassured me that the call was recorded and a note of the conversation will go on my record (which, incidentially, shows I'm 24 and born in 1984, no confusion there!) so hopefully this won't come back and bite me on the !!!!!0 -

I applied for a virgin credit card, and they claim they need 3 years of address history (I have only 2 years in this country) and I was still accepted.
Likewise, Alliance + Leicester say they need 5 years of address history, but I was accepted for that too. I guess these "rules" are just guidelines. You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
I believe you are mistaken.
Gold Card
"You should be over 21 and earning at least £20,000 per year to apply."
Platinum Card
"Our Platinum Card not only compliments your status, but offers travel discounts and protection against fraud and identity theft to those over 25 and earning at least £25,000 per year."
edit: This post is referring to the wrong bank/building soc (as pointed out by UNDERGROUND).They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!0 -

No, you are mistaken - you have cut and paste text from the NatWest website, this thread is about Nationwide.

LOL too early in the morning i'd just woken up. Gotta love the student lifestyle...
The Nationwide website states to apply for the Gold Card
" You will need to be aged 18 or over, a permanent UK resident and registered to vote".
The may offer a Gold Card or Calssic Card.
"A Gold card is most likely to be suitable if you are aged 25 or over, have an annual income of £25,000 or more, and have an excellent credit history.
If our Gold card isn't right for you, then we may offer you our Classic card."They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!0 -
im 23 and have had an account with nationwide since i was a lad....
ive had 2k ods and 2k credit cards with them, recently had it increased to over 3k, with a small balance of £350 and od all paid off and well in the green
with a good few grand going through my account this year....
i had a classic card when i was 18 with the 2k limit, i was a student and it remained maxed out till beginning of the year, but with no late or missed payments
i phoned up this week to enquire what they could do for me...... and i was told i was eligable for my classic card to be a gold card, just fill in my card number and sign the agrement, so its looking good
i really cant wait
it will look nice next to my mbna platinum card

Your also forgetting one thing. It doesn't matter what you put on your app for any cc it gets cross checked with your credit report anyway, including your age.
I applied for a Nationwide gold card recently and they sent me a gold and classic card both with 7K limits with different account numbers on each. I just sent the classic back not because the gold gives you more, it just loks nicer.
I've had so many Gold, Platinum, Diamond,Plutonium cards over the years i've realsied that nothing is free with them. All the free rubbish they offer you is only avaialble if you use the card to buy it with in the first place!
I think they're just status symbols now more than anything else since all most people want is a decent balance transfer and interest rate.0 -
What I find stupid about the NW Classic CC is that it is blue, the same colour as their Direct Debit Card and easy to mix up in poor light conditions.:rolleyes:0
