The Optical Store - Avoid

I purchased a pair of designer frames via this company's website on 25th June 2008. My order was confirmed and the money debited from my credit card the same day. The T&C on the website stated that I should receive my frames within 14 days and that I would be contacted if there was a problem with fulfilling my order. I also paid £6.95 for the frames to be sent by RM special delivery.
2 weeks passed with no sign of my frames and no communication from The Optical Store. Since the 10th July, I have repeatedly emailed them with nor response at all. I have tried to contact them through the 'contact us' form on the website. Again, no response. I have lost count of the number of attempts I have made to phone them. Either the phone just rings and rings or it switches to a fax tone after a couple of rings. A couple of times I have got a call waiting message only to get cut off after several minutes of holding and being assured that the caller knows I am waiting.
I have passed the matter over to my credit card company now and hopefully I will get my money back with no problem but just wanted to warn others about this company.

Likewise.
I ordered 2 pairs of specs from the actual shop - not online - and thankfully paid for them with my credit card. This was just over a month ago now. Two weeks after ordering them I started to chase it up, and they weren't answering the phone. Now the website and the phone seem to have been cut off completely.
I've just passed it to my CC company, but is there anything else I should do, such as Trading Standards etc?0 -
I never managed to contact them and have now had my money back through my credit card company.
If you paid by credit card, contact them and initiate the process immediately to get your money back as there is a time limit in which to do so.0 -

I have known the Optical Store since they were in Southampton Row. I have always used them, and they have always had great service and prices.!! Lets be honest they sell designer glasses with expensive lenses for less than half the high street price.. I was a regular customer of the shop and got to know the owner quite well. For the prices they were selling products for, they were bound to go bust!!! Anyway, thats what happened - they went bust, during the credit crunch. The banks cut them off and recalled their business loan. However I can personally guarantee, that anyone that paid via debit card or cash for an outstanding order was paid back. There simply was not enough money to pay back everyone, so the owner did not reimburse Credit Card holders, as they would have got their money back from the card company anyway. After his business went bust, he spent a whole year working in a low paid job, and used all his spare money to pay back people who didn't pay via credit card. I would like to know on behalf of my friend, is there anyone who lost money still remaining?? If so please post on this wall and you will be paid back...0
