Track house price changes with Property Bee

Apologies if this has been posted before, but anyone who doesn't know... should know.

I knew the news was bad on house prices but I didn't realise how bad! I just installed Firefox and Property Bee, and trundled through a few dozen pages of properties in my area... I am absolutely gobsmacked. Prices slashed, Sold STC becoming re-available, multiple reductions, huge reductions (well over 25% in places).

For those who don't already know - Firefox is an alternative to Internet Explorer, which you must have in order to use Property Bee. You can keep using your old IE and just use Firefox for checking Rightmove. Property Bee shows you all the normal Rightmove stuff, but with price and other information changes shown in additional boxes.

To install this software took about three minutes and here are some simple instructions.

The download for FireFox is at http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

It is simple to use and is a real eye opener as to the current direction of the property market. In my area i have seen reductions up to 89k since Jan 08 at the higher end of the market. I am also seeing desperate sellers offering houses or flats at the equivalent of 2004 prices.

This really is heading for a meltdown folks. If you weren't silly enough to buy recently then you have made the best financial decision of your life.

Go back to your rented accomodation and prepare to snap up a bargain!

PB has been much discussed on the forum, beer hunter from GHPC wrote the code back in January.

Have a look at this I believe the programme was written by Tom also of GHPC, but Rightmove have changed thier websites so not as effective, which is why PB was written.

I've not quite grasped he use of this property bee.

Just installed it yesterday and had a look at a few properties on rightmove to see what info it gives.

On the property page of all the properties I checked(10) it only showed yesterdays date as 'initial entry found' and then on some of them it showed the tele number for the agents had changed.

I was expecting it show the price changes of the property like propertysnake but now I'm starting to guess that it only compares the price against the last time you viewed a property (based on history/cookies). So if you hadn't viewed a property previously, you won't know if it's been reduced.

    Am I doing something incorrectly?

mmm sort of yes, when you install it you need to register so that you can work in "a bee", it will still show some as being on the day you first looked but there will be a fair few others that go back further
  • Loofer, you are using it correctly, over time the price (and any other page changes) will be listed. I find it better than PS in some ways as it is specific to properties that you have your eye on.

As said above, if you load up Property Bee and can't see anything except today's date/price, then the reason will be for one of two reasons:

1] Look on the PB toolbar for the options, make sure there is a tick beside "work in a bee"
2] Maybe you live in a small place, quite remote and you are actually the first person ever to perform the search that you did.

It has to be one or the other.
  • The "Work in a Bee" option is greyed out - I have no option to do that
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • OK - it seems I hadn't registered. But I've just been prompted to install an update to PB. After I'd done that I was asked if I wanted to "register for the forums and work in a bee".

Registered, got the welcome email, followed the link to activate the account and BINGO :)

So ..... REGISTER for the forums and then you get to "Work in a Bee"

    Thanks folks

  • Property Bee is fantastic, I can't recommend it highly enough.
