Help, need a credit card

Hi, Please could someone give me some advice.
My husband and I are having real bad time financialy, we struggle to pay all the bills and buy food and sometime miss meals so to make sure the kids can eat. My husbands boss has ordered him a company car (which we had no choice in) so we will be losing more money as he has to pay tax on the car and make a contridution every month for the car. But on top of this he has to pay for the fuel for the car and then claim it back. We will need credit card to buy fuel but as we are in financial difficulity we think we may be turned down. (we don't have a card at the moment).

Can any one please advise us of a credit card that we can apply for that is for people with a low credit rating (which I'm assuming we must have).

We are both having sleepless nights about how we can afford this extra expence. But my husband was been warned by his boss that he must have this car as his boss has worked hard to get him on the company car list and his boss says if he does not accept then his future at the company can not be guarentee. (At the moment he has a company van and fuel card but they are getting rid of all the vans and will not issue fuel cards anymore).

Please advise us
Thankyou.

why not get hold of your credit files to see what they say?

credit cards for low credit score people include vanquis, barclays initial and cap 1... all charge awful rates of interest but as long as you pay in full each month then then you will pay no interest anyway.

Thankyou for your help, I will apply for our credit files but as the car is supposed to to be with us at the start of sept, we were worrying on how to get fuel for it. I will have a look at the cards you suggested - thankyou.

Can your husband not speak to his employers and explain that you are having cash flow problems at the moment and ask them to pay a advance for fuel, it may be the best idea as frankly getting a credit card in your current financial constraints may be a ticking time bomb for you, it's so easy to run up debts on credit cards.

If you do get a credit card, don't accept the limit they give you, try and get them to lower it to approx how much hubbies fuel will cost over the month.

Thanks dld2s, yes my husband did inform them that this wasn't the best time for us to have a company car and asked could we wait until next year, but his boss took it as a personal insult and said other employees would be more than grateful to be put on the company car list. My husband explained that as we would be down about £120 a months after the contributions and extra tax and that our child tax credit has also be reduced by about £72 per month. So as we struggle now ( I spend about £40 a week on food, tolietries, cleaning stuff - 2 adults 2 kids) a company car may have deverstating results. But his boss is not interested and says my husband has no choice as the Van will be taken away from him in September and he is not allowed to use our own car as their insurance won't cover him or their tools.

I agree about a credit card its how we got into so much debt in the first place (we now have a sercured loan - which I now know was a really bad decision). But we can't pay for fuel out of our money as we just couldn't afford to live. So the a credit card seems our only choice.

I have never seem my husband come home from work so depressed as he has done lately and crying is something he doesn't do but in the last few weeks he has cried many times.

I know our debt issues aren't just about the car but it seems to be the icing on the cake.

    Thanks again for you help.

    Hi,

As long as your repayments have been ontime for a short time your credit file may be ok. Check online with creditexpert or something of that sort. You may be suprised. If it's good you could apply for a much better credit card. But you HAVE to make sure it is paid off in full every month, so the claims for fuel have to be in and refunded. If you don't think you can be trusted with a credit card DO NOT get one.

To be completely honest with you, your husbands boss sounds like a a k**b h**d and I would suggest he looks for a new job if thats what he'd got to put up with.
