hello, a few years ago my drivers window of my ford stopped going down, the switch clicked but nothing happened. i hit the door and it worked again but it has stopped working again and my magic touch has gone. does anyone have any ideas about what i can do myself as ive seen that its about £250 to repair if all needs replacing, i still feel i could get it working again - somehow... all help gratefully received

Sorry but this may be not what you are wanting to hear..

Obviously something is wrong with either the mechanism or the motor on the window. If either needs replacing, then it will cost you the price of the part and labour to do the job, unless you are able to fix it yourself.

dependin on the car it could be as easy as just uncliping and recliping wires, we often have it when refitting up cars

generally most fords are in scrappers so parts are easy to come across and they come apart and go back together easily

i'd say its a connection rather than needing parts if a bang used to corrrect it

its probably the window regulator ( the frame and mechanism for the window).
get one from a scrappy and fit it yourself.
    ...work permit granted!
  • I had the same problem. If you undo all the screws on your door panel ( they are all the same size so don't panic ) and then remove the panel, you will find a push in connection about three inches wide. it will have wires going to and from it. Sometimes water can get into this, so pull the two push in sections apart and spray on some wd 40. wipe off any dirt and push it back together. turn your ignition until you can operate your windows and give it a try. Hopefully that will do the trick and it will cost you the price of a small tin of wd.40.

    Good Luck.

If motor still working this would be my favourite. But you really need to get into it and see where or what is causing the problem and as goldspanners suggests a trip to the scrappy will be in order (you will also find a motor there)
