VIVITAR- what are they like as a digital camera?

Options
hi all,

looking at lots of different digital cameras as i want a new one...had a trusty Canon Ixus II now for 7 years and would like to upgrade

I know there are lots of threads about which one so i won't ask that...

but....

Vivitar has cropped up a few times and i wondered what the general concensus was, in particular:

I was also looking at the CASIO ex-z1080.....

any opinions greatly appreciated xx

I used my bf's vivitar a few times and it was awful :( It was about £40 about 12 months ago. Literally could NOT take a decent photo with it...

My mum bought a cheap Sanyo from Argos reecently which does what it says on the tin...
Cant see it on their website now so might not do it anymore :( It's blue.

Avoid Vivitar, worst camera that I have ever owned.

Best camera's that I own are Panasonic and Fuji, both excellent.:T

want a cheaper Canon? Look at the canon refurb shop on ebay, They roughly go for around 25% cheaper. They also give a year warranty. too. I bought a g7 for £180 including P&p ect - a reasonable price. G9 sell for around £235
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

my brother has a 3.2mp vivitar camera. my SE K810i can do better shots even though its a phone and has autofocus unlike the vivitar.

you will notice the difference between the vivitar and the canon - the canon probably will take better shots than a vivitar even if the canons older
  • Keep what you have. Whats wrong with your pictures? If you are unhappy with them and need more powerful features then "upgrading" to a £50 unit is not going to impress you. Go to real photo outlets and have a chat to the users/experts there and not just picking a box off the shelf. What type of photos do you want to take? Where will you take these? How many and what storage capacities will you need?

I wouldn't recommend a Vivitar either. I have a ViviCam 4345 which I got cheap from Superdrug but I've had to stop using it because the shutter lag is so slow. It does take quite good pictures and would be fine for things that don't move, but when trying to take photos of my 3 year old she's gone out of shot by the time the shutter has fired. I've got lots of pictures of the back of her head :D

I recently bought a Fuji F47fd, which I'm very happy with: http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/462950/FUJIFILM-F47FD-SILVER If you buy one from Comet you can get 4% cashback from topcashback.co.uk

Just to second Minerva69 really, I have a Vivicam5385, also bought cheap from Superdrug

It is handy for sticking in my pocket, but I found kids party shots etc just a blur due to lag, nice otherwise for still shots of flowers etc

My "proper" camera is a Fuji refurb from the Fuiji shop, bit old now but does a great job, but at considerably higher price to be fair to Vivitar

Bought a Technika for my dad, which is a rebranded Vivitar. Have to say the pictures are pretty cr*p even compared to my 2mp skype phone!! I've got a 7.2mp samsung 3 x optical zoom which I paid £47 for last December in Argos half price sale and that takes excellent pictures.
