Failed transaction shows on online statement

I recently bought goods in a supermarket with my debit card and the transaction failed ( problem with the till )so the cashier did it again and it worked . Checking my online statement it showed 2 transactions for the same amount , I queried this and was told that even though the transaction failed because it went for authorisation it shows on my account twice but would come back and my money was still with the bank not the store. It did come back and all evidence of the transaction went from my online statement does anyone know where the money goes until it comes back ?

Presumably the shop's card merchant agent had the money.0

Was it actually debited from your account or was it just an earmark against cleared funds?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
