DLA- how do they make the decision?

Is it a points based system e.g. if person can't do this 2 points if they can't do that 3 points if they get x points they get awarded low rate e.t.c.

Or do they just look for specific criteria e.g. if they can see that the person needs help with preparing meals then award low rate e.t.c.?

There appears to be a criteria. They are meant to be very biased though. They also look for reasons not to award it, which is wrong, imo.
  • with DLA you have to keep in mind that it is awarded based on care/mobility needs and not for an illness or medical condition, the decision is based on the information you supply plus additional info. scourced from your gp and possibly other medical people,in my experience it is untrue to say that they look for reasons not to make an award, most unsuccessful awards are due to insufficient information being provided by the claimant

I didn't know that they look at reasons not to award it. How do you know this?
I've never been turned down for my DLA so I cannot really comment on the biased thing.

Because that's what they did to me. And that was before they'd even bothered to contact any medical professionals that I've seen.

They were saying things like 'well, if you do this, you wouldn't have that problem.' Well, I can't do what was suggested.
    Absolute rubbish.

Of course, I've been there and they've done it to me and I know they've done it to other people. (mostly people with invisible illnesses)

So you don't actually have any factual evidence that they look for reasons to turn down claims, it is just your opinion?

But didn't they award you low rate care anyway? Only going by a previous thread I think you started. At least I think it was you? My brain's not working. I think it's half asleep. lol.

Eventually, after having them look at it again and then finally deciding that they would contact my doctor.

No, it is not my opinion. I know many people who have said the same thing.

The OP is looking for facts. You are giving opinion. If you refer to the Decision Makers Guide, you will see that there is no bias, and there is absolutely no direction for the DM's to find reasons not to make an award.

Kristine690, if you want a link to the DMG I can find the relevant parts for you x
