Polymer Clay Cake Toppers

What brand of clay do you usually use Me? I managed to bulk buy a box of Sculpey on ebay so I have been using that lately but usually it's the Fimo.
Have you found any big differences between the brands?Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0 -
I just recently bought a couple of handbag charms of cupcakes made of this fimo from Ebay, most impressed with them and would make lovely Christmas stocking fillers.0

I use fimo. Haven't tried sculpey. The only problem with fimo is a while ago they changed the 'recipe' so when working with it it does tend to go really soft really quickly. I normally make dolls house miniatures and working in that scale with really soft clay is not a good combination !! it's easier to work in a cold room or after mixing the colours let it rest for a while and it does tend to firm up a bit.
Edinburghlass buy a couple of packets and have a play!! there's loads of ideas on the sculpey site and for christmas things just google to come up with lots of ideas. You really don't need lots of tools or special equipment, the most expensive bit of kit I have is the cutters but I've used pen tops, icing nozzles and a contact lens case top to cut out shapes.0 -
I found that sculpey although very good to work with can be fragile in comparison to the fimo but then again there are many different types of sculpey and I have only worked with the one.
Edinburghlass, I second Me have a go it's soo easy. You'll be surprised at what you can make and save.
I love clay cake toppers simply because they are for keeps (they don't go off) and can if need be used time and time again (very mse). Plus I love making them and other clay items such as beads etc because I do jewelery making and they save me a packet.Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0 -
I never gave it a thought to try myself, I'm not the worlds most crafty person although in the past have done some when my daughter was younger but might just give this a go and I'm sure my daughter would enjoy it.0

Me and the cat, the link you posted for sculpey are asking for product testers. I'm going to apply. Didn't know if you knew about it so thought I'd mention it as you get to keep all the products.Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0
