auction world tv - avoid!!!!!!

This satellite/cable shopping channel has had extensive negative reporting on Watchdog and various other online news forums. I mean the fact that you have to dial a premium rate number to bid is a joke in itself, but if you go on to read the OFCOM report, you'll see that is only the tip of the iceberg!
Today OFCOM issued a near half a million pound fine on the channel for breaching many OFCOM advertising rules.

This station is a shoddy outfit who you should avoid at all costs and hopefully OFCOM will shut it down ASAP.

(P.S: Chase It.tv is also run by the same company, so draw your own conclusions!)

There is a message on the AW web-site saying that they are off-air for a few days while they comply with the Ofcom directive , but hope to start broadcasting again next week. To my understanding the only way they can comply with the directive is to deliver the many outstanding orders and refunds , ensure that people will be answered via the"customer service " phone lines and web-site and have all the "guide prices" verified by three independent sources. I don't think that is going to happen in a few days.
On top of this they have got to find nearly half a million pounds to pay the Ofcom fine. Also there are reports on other web-sites that the staff of AW were expelled from the studio complex in Teddington because the company were behind in their rental . Then you have all the negative publicity from Watchdog and various newspapers. In my opinion AW are dead in the water. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Well, finally the ineviatble has happened and the God awful shopping channel has gone bust with debts of £14 million pound. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Whilst I am glad that we shall no longer see the channel, I extend my sympathies to those who have been left out of pocket by these crooks.
And whilst I am unsure as to whether or not their sister channel (Chase it.tv) has suffered the same fate I would suggest to anyone who TV shops - AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. And here's an uncanny coincidence - Chase It.tv broadcasts on channel 666 on sky - they got the devil's handprints all over them!::)
Be money savvy gang!
And here's a good rule of thumb, why do you usually see stuff on TV shopping channels which aren't stocked by high street retailers? Because the high street retailers know the c**p won't sell!0 -
This (from the tvshoppingworld.com web-site ) gives the Auctionworld story in a nutshell:-
The salient points of the BBC Radio report were these
Officially in administration
14 million debt( not including what it owes customers)
17,000 dissatisfied customers
nov 2001 started broadcasting -
problems from the start dismissed as teething problems - frequently used data loss as an excuse -
5m loss in first year -
latterly selling stock they didnt have -
rent owed to teddington studios estimated at £100,000.
another 10000 customers have not had refunds.
set up a false market to support the price of a diamond watch.
webpage is going to be set up by administrators to advise customers.
Administrators have had some interest shown in taking over company.
staff not paid for November.
Minimal amounts to be paid to creditors.
The ofcom fine still stands despite them being in administration.
Trading Standards and police are also involved

If you go to the watchdog website they'll give you info on how to try and claim your money back, but to be honest the money goes to the big debtors first.
I saw that as well - they've finally 'closed the doors'.
Best of luck to all of you who are making claims.Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you!0 -
I worked for a company that went bust and got ripped off 2 weeks wages.
< cannot disclose word >.
Hope all get what's owing to them - including a BIG slice of poetic justice pie!Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you!0 -
I am amazed that there are people out there, some who consider themselves money savvy, who allow themselves to trapped in to such a scam.
Whilst feeling sorry for those who have got 'ripped off'
it is clear to a blind man that the huge reduction on prices was always suspect.
Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch!!!!!!Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Well, I think there is only one thing left to say to describe the situation at auction world and it's their own catchphrase:
"It's going, going, GONE!"0
