Gap Year Health Check

My son is spending his Gap Year doing voluntary teaching abroad for a charity. He has to raise £5000 before he goes, which is hard work, but has now been told by his own doctor that the medical he MUST have will cost him £100. As fast as he is making the money,it seems to go!

Does anyone know if there is a charity that provides medical examinations for voluntary workers?

If anyone wants some ideas about fundraising, We would love to share ours with you.

I never had to have a medical for my gap-year placement. Who is he going with?

Perhaps he can get an exemption certificate by filling in the HC1 form? That should be available from your local NHS doctor or dentist.

The company who are helping him on the Gap Year, BUNAC etc etc should be paying for this. Call them and ask them, since the Volunteering fee normally includes stuff like this.

Hi Karnam,

During the access course, the charity stated that they did not have the funds for health checks or injections. the fund raising the students had to do had to include this. Apparently the meeting got rather heated.
