what wireless router works best with HP iPAQ3715

Done a search here but couldn't find anything about best wireless router to work with a HP iPAQ3715 device. My PC runs on Windows XP, with a 2mb NTL cable modem attached.

Obviously I need a cable modem enabled wireless router but which one works best with this set up, belkin/netgear/linksys/etc... Just want my PC and handheld to be able to access the internet through the cable modem nothing else needed!

Thanks in advance,

Barry

If you've already got an external modem you could just get a router (no inbuilt modem) and plug it into the existing modem.

If you don't mind that kind of setup the KCorp KLG575 is a brilliant, and very nicely priced router. It retails at around £45.

Of my Draytek, KCorp and my parent's Netgear, I've not had a single problem with the KCorp, it runs flawlessly, and maintains very good wireless speeds. It won the PC Pro Gold award a month or two back in a group test.

I'm not so pleased with the Netgear I bought for my parents. It's been very problematic, and from the Netgear forums this is generally either due to buggy firmware or it overheating (they don't use heatsinks on the chips in a lot of products). I had previously been a fan of Netgear as they used to run-and-run, but at the moment they don't appear to be the best choice.

*Don't even get me started on the Netgear WG111T usb wireless adapter!!!

    Great advice Moonshine!

I was looking at the Netgear one but KCorp looks even better. Just need a router not with modem as will un it off my NTL cable modem so this KCorp looks cheap/quick and ideal for my uses as long as it is a cable modem enabled router that is.

    Thanks again,

    Barry
  • Now that's interesting - we have a Netgear router and I've posted a thread on the techie board about our connection cutting-out all the time. Is it possible it's due to the router?

No, no, the KCorp is purely a router. It doesn't have an inbuilt modem. Sorry I thought you already had a modem, so suggested the KCorp as you would hook it up to the modem.

I'm having a nightmare with two Netgear products, so I wouldn't recommend them at all. If you are considering a certain model, have a look on the Netgear Forums (just google "Netgear Forums") to see if there are many people complaining about it.

I've got the DG834GT, which won't run in super-g mode without dropping connection every tens minutes and requiring a reboot. I've even contacted Netgear who sent me the unreleased beta version of the next firmware, so they obviously know something is up to send me that. I've also got the WG111T usb wireless adapter, which also locks up. No one seems to know why, but overheating, buggy software, and bad compatibility with AMD chipsets are theories often thrown around. It's an experience that has put me right off Netgear. Like I said, browse through their forums if you are considering buying one of their products.
