Selling H & L investment straight into bank account

H & L have told me that in principle they can make a payment straight into your bank account rather than them sending a cheque but how do they organise this?

Can you clarify which direction? You say "payment into your bank account" against "sending them a cheque" - these are opposite actions.

Assuming you mean they are sending the money back to you, you would just need to give them your sort code and account number, in the same way you can send a payment to another bank account or pay a bill.

Whoops sorry i have edited OP. So could you do this on the phone ? Whose fault is it if they mishear your sort code or account code and it goes into the wrong account ?

Probably yours, in their view anyway ;) In reality, I doubt they'll take instructions like that over the phone - whenever I've wanted to add/delete/change regular payments they've always insisted on written instructions. Make sure what you send is correct and clear, so it can't be misunderstood.
