Heres a good tip. Answer the phone and if the person asks for you by name you know they are selling something. So say something like "Hold on, I'll just see if they are in". Then just leave the phone on the side board and carry on with what you were doing. Most of those annoying phonecalls are from international numbers anyway so it's costing them a fortune to ring you. In the end they will get fed up of waiting and you can just put the phone down. After about the 4th time you do this they will get fed up and not ring you again.

There was a brilliant site I saw once about a computer program which answered withheld calls and played prerecorded messages whenever it detected the caller had stopped speaking, thus simulating a hilarious converstion between the telemarketer and the computer before they eventually hang up.

I have been googling for the last 5-10 minutes now and can't find it! Anyone remember it - I think I discovered it from a post on here?
  • Never mind the TPS and other fancy techno ideas. Next time they call, tell them you are no longer worried about your debts as you've found peace and and harmony through worshiping at the church of San Miguel and ask them if they'd like to pray with you. Even try targeting one or two of their operators yourself by name, call them up and ask if they want to convert to the doctrine of San Miguel. I reckon they'll leave you alone after a while.
  • Now thats a good idea!

At least you can always put the phone down. Surely this is better than them turning up in person.
