very strange incident this morning, i started my car and it seemed to be going fine and then I was about 5 minutes away from my destination and my indicators front, back and side stopped working. I reached my destination and did what I needed to do which took about 3 hours. I started the car again and I had the same problem until I got within about 5 minutes of home and my indicators started working again, when I got home I stopped the car turned the engine off and back on again and all my indicator lights are now working.
Should I bother going to the garage or shall I just leave it put the problem down to a 'funny-five-minutes'
any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated :T

Probably poor earth connection somewhere. Recently had similar on my fiat stilo which was corrosion in connection block to rear light cluster which is apparently a common problem, cleaned the contacts and all is now betterI think....0

Usually if both sides stop working, if the fuses are OK it's the hazard light switch.0 -
ANy chance of finding out what type of car it is
Theres plenty of cars where this is a common fault, citroen picasso for instance

Every 1 in 3 Italian cars come with a free electrical gremlin hidden in the car somewhere. You will never find it as they are constantly moving about.
Seriously though if you are confident enough take out the rear lamps, reseat the bulbs looking for corrosion and then test. If no corrosion is found then do the fronts and side repeaters.
An old motorbike of mine the indicators just used to flash on not off. I had to run new earth leads to them to make them work.0 -
Try pulling off the hazard light switch and blowing onto it as hard as you can or use a can of compressed air. I had the same problem today and this worked for me. It was dust on the timer switch contacts on my Merc.
I agree with Conor for once.0 -
Both good free remedies for some usual common electrical glitches, if it's not these, it's more than likely the indicator stalk, hot a very expensive repair, that is unless you're a mug and bring it into a main dealer. A good indipendent garage should be able to replace one of these for well under £100 with new parts;)0

First place I'd look would be the relay for the indicators. Pull it out, check for corrosion, and replace.0
