Always losing your keys?

  • Hello,

I’m the managing director of SpareKeys.com – the thing that started this whole thread! I know more than most about the whole losing your keys thing, so thought I should post.

First of all – leaving keys with neighbours is not ideal – even if you do know them well enough to ask. For many, there will always be a concern about giving your keys to people that know when you're out or on holiday. But more practically, you would never want to call on them late at night. And what happens if they are out?

As for burying your keys ANYWHERE – bad, bad, bad! The Shurlocks and Keysafes of this world are a fine idea, but for very limited purposes. I’d be concerned about a box that just tempts trouble – you may as well have a sign up that says, “my keys are in here”. I’m also aware that these security devices are of limited strength – a professional thief could crack one open in minutes with a drill.

SpareKeys.com is a much more complete service. Unlike neighbours or Shurlocks, we deliver keys to you anywhere in London, 24/7, within the hour, guaranteed. And we look after ALL your keys – car, home, office. We’ll also deliver to your children, parents or home help – all you need to do is pass the security codes on to them. And for £29, you can store up to 10 keys with us – enough to make it worthwhile sharing the account with someone!

Security is at the heart of our operation. We’re security accredited by the SSAIB (https://www.ssaib.org), and we never know your address – we have the UK’s only anonymous online payment system. You can read all about our security here: https://www.sparekeys.com/pages/5/Security.html

For those of you that are interested in SpareKeys, we’re glad to offer a discount to moneysavers – just go to https://www.sparekeys.com/signup.php and enter this coupon code: AQJBN56RAE (valid until Dec 31st 2005)

You’ll be charged just £24 instead of £29.

I’ll be glad to hear from you with any queries at all – email barry@sparekeys.com

Damn wish I knew of the service last year. Went for a jog late on a Sunday, pulled the door too and just as it closed realised I didn't have a key. Went for the jog wondering what to do, then in the end it was cheaper just to smash one of the windows and climb in. Only thing was I was dressed all in black (my running gear) and one of the neighbours caught site of what they thought was a break in.

Had the hassle of explaining my circumstances to the police, having to board up the window, then the next morning paying £80 for a glazer and having go into work late. Was a good excuse not to jog for a while.
